Belly Wisdom: A Community Abdominal Health Workshop
The abdomen is home to many of the body’s most important organs. Digestion, immunity, hormonal balance, circulation, and even aspects of our emotional well-being are deeply connected to what is happening within the belly. Yet despite how vital this region is, most of us were never taught how our organs function or how to properly care for them.
In Thai Medicine, the abdomen is considered a central hub of health. When the organs are restricted, stagnant, or inflamed, the entire body feels the effects. But when the belly is soft, mobile, and supported, digestion improves, circulation increases, breathing deepens, and the body begins to regulate itself more efficiently.
This workshop is designed to help people reconnect with this often-overlooked area of the body and develop a deeper understanding of how the digestive organs influence overall health.
During this 3 hour class, we will explore the anatomy and function of the major abdominal organs and discuss how digestion impacts many common issues people experience today such as bloating, fatigue, hormonal imbalance, stress, and inflammation.
Participants will learn how to recognize signs of digestive imbalance and will be introduced to simple lifestyle practices that support long-term gut health.
A large portion of the workshop will focus on hands-on learning. You will be guided through gentle abdominal techniques that can be used as self-care or shared safely with a partner or loved one. These techniques are inspired by traditional Thai abdominal massage and are designed to support circulation, encourage organ mobility, and promote relaxation in the nervous system.
We will also explore the use of Thai herbal compress therapy, a traditional treatment used throughout Thailand to warm the tissues, stimulate circulation, and support digestive function.
In addition to hands-on work, we will discuss practical ways to support digestive health through diet, herbs, and simple lifestyle changes that can help maintain balance in the body.
The goal of this workshop is body literacy and empowerment. When we understand how our organs function and learn to listen to the signals our body sends us, we become better equipped to care for ourselves and advocate for our health.
Many people feel disconnected from their internal landscape. This workshop offers an opportunity to reconnect with the body in a respectful, educational, and practical way.
